It’s so easy to buy a plant and then have it die, even though you think you’ve been taking care of it correctly. However, the plant may have not been watered correctly, or exposed to the right amount of sunlight. The issue could also be that you don’t know what kind of plant you have. Plants can look alike, but one might be tropical and the other a desert dweller.
We have compiled a list of indoor plants that require minimal care, with some tips on how to best look after them. As an added bonus, many of these plants are also natural air-purifiers!

ZZ plant
ZZ doesn’t mind being in the shade. In fact, its leaves turn a darker green the less sunlight it is exposed to.
Only water it once a month.
From ¥15.36

Prayer Plant
Apart from its lovely coloring, this plant also performs a nightly "prayer ritual", where it folds its leaves inward at night.

Asparagus Fern
This delicate wisp of a plant is neither asparagus nor a fern. People aren't sure what it is.
The only thing it needs to thrive is a daily misting and weekly watering.
From ¥5.92

Ivy
It might seem a little weird to have ivy in the house - but it's an attractive houseplant that doesn't mind a bit of neglect.
Water it once a week.
From ¥7.51

Chinese Money Plant
It can shoot up like a weed. If only it grew real Chinese money!
Water it once a week.
From ¥20.02

Kentia Palm

From ¥10.27

Top Tips
– Pick a day of the week on which you water your plants – that way you won’t forget.
– Some plants here are toxic for pets, so give it a quick search before you buy.
– Always ensure proper drainage by keeping the plant inside a plastic pot and then placing it into a larger pot, or by having a pot with a tray underneath.
– Look up your plant for more detailed instructions, especially regarding re-potting and propagation.
– Always keep your local climate in mind when determining how to care for a plant. If you live in a very humid area, you can probably get away with watering it less than what is recommended.
