Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival (Chūn Jié), is a nationwide celebration of friends, food and family. 2017 marks the year of the Rooster, the presiding animal zodiac sign of the year. You might notice that things tend to quiet down around this time, as many local businesses temporarily shut down while hordes of people return to their hometowns to reunite with their families.
This huge migration, known as Spring Festival Travel Season (Chūnyùn) hit 2.9 billion people in 2016 and can last up to 40 days.
