eco&more is a Chinese eco-friendly, all natural home, baby and personal care product brand. Here at Baopals, we receive many requests from customers that want to know more about purchasing more sustainable products, so we decided to go behind the scenes of one of eco&more’s Shanghai factories and learn more about the brand.

Founder Jeni Saeyang created eco&more after moving back to China in 2010 and coming to the conclusion that if she wanted green products to use at home with her family and pets, she would have to make them herself. "Both of my parents are doctors and I was prone to all kinds of allergies to dust and synthetic perfumes as a kid, so I was always looking for products that were chemical free for myself," she says. Eco&more products are hypoallergenic, free from preservatives and artificial colors/fragrances and use natural essential oils.

Since its conception, the brand has received some positive feedback; Jeni was a finalist in the 2015 Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards Awards and is a regular participant in the Eco Design Fair in Shanghai. The brand is also one of the first Chinese cosmetics brands to join PETA's cruelty free cosmetics list, meaning they do not test their products on animals. Eco&more products also sell in various supermarkets and malls throughout China, Australia and Europe.

The Baopals team headed out to the Shanghai Qiansu Cosmetic Co. factory to see the brand's latest collection of essential oils. The factory has its own in-house water purification system, and cosmetics are researched and tested on-site.

When we entered the packaging room, the rich scent of lavender filled the air. The lavender essential oil was placed into a machine that would dispense it in even amounts, and the bottles and their different components were prepared along an assembly line. After the oil was dispensed and the bottles were assembled, the bottles were put into their little boxes and placed into a shrink wrap machine. They were then inspected and put into boxes to be shipped out.

"All our original formulas are from Australia, and at first we made our products in Australia. But I later decided that if we wanted to be eco, we shouldn’t be shipping products across the oceans and it was more sustainable to produce locally," Jeni tells us.

"I also wanted to be a part of uplifting the manufacturing process in China. And actually, since we started there have been many new Chinese brands that copy us and contact our factory to make green products."

We then headed down to the cosmetics lab, where they store all of the different components and chemicals that go into their formulas. This is also where the products are inspected and tested before they are distributed.
