If you've ever wanted to try an Instant Pot, you're in luck! They have officially opened their own official shop online in China. Instant Pot is a Canadian brand that makes popular pressure cookers and multicookers. They speed up cooking up to 10 times faster by cooking food at a high temperature under a lot of pressure and steam. They are safer and easier to use than a stovetop pressure cooker, which can have a tendency to explode if not used correctly.

Our guest writer (who is still finding pieces of chicken on the walls of her apartment after her stovetop pressure cooker exploded) decided to give the Instant Pot a try!

After doing some research, I decided to purchase the Instant Pot Duo in the 6L size over the Duo Evo because it was significantly cheaper, and most of the recipes I found online used the Duo as reference. The 6L size is recommended for 2-3 people, so it was the best option for my small family.

The only thing I was concerned about was the Chinese buttons, but I simply printed out a photo of the English buttons and used it for reference.

I ended up not really needing the English guide, because most recipes only require you to just use two buttons: Pressure Cook and Sauté. The other buttons are presets, and most recipes will recommend setting the time and pressure manually to be fully in control of the food you’re cooking. Any messages on the screen part of the Instant Pot are in English. In one situation, I received a warning in English when my food was burning and the Instant Pot turned off automatically!

After becoming familiar with the buttons, it was very easy to operate the Instant Pot and I started using it immediately. I found many resources online that showed me how to use it, along with thousands of delicious recipes. Some YouTube channels I recommend are: Tried, Tested and True Instant Pot Cooking and Six Sisters' Stuff.

I have been using my Instant Pot for several months now and am extremely pleased with it! I have used it almost every single day to make a wide variety of delicious food quickly and conveniently. It is also very convenient to clean because everything can be made in one pot (try the sauté feature!), resulting in fewer dishes. Below are some of my favorite recipes I’ve personally made:

And of course, you can use the Instant Pot to make simple staples like steamed vegetables, legumes/beans, boiled eggs, yogurt, rice and much more! Give it a try and see what you can create.
