美国的ANSI/ISEA Z 89.1-2014，对安全帽分为Type I和Type II，Type I主要应对头部顶部受到的冲击，Type II主要应对头部顶部及侧面受到的冲击。如果使用过程中存在可能导致安全帽从使用者头部脱落的危险，则应考虑使用下颏带以增加安全性和固定头盔（针对TypeII）。
