Australian Unionized Immigration and Border Force will Strike on November 9
As reported in a recent CWT Alert, Australian Unionized Immigration and Border Force workers are planning to stage a 24-hour strike across Australia on November 9. The action will severely disrupt passenger processing at airports serving Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Cairns International and Darwin.
Passengers will likely encounter extensive delays at customs inspections and arrival card and passport screening. While Border Force management will probably be brought in to ensure some level of service, senior level workers will not be able to fill all the positions of unionized employees, likely resulting in severe passenger backlogs. Flights may be delayed if a majority of passengers are unable to pass through processing on time.
CWT reminds travelers in Australia or those that have plans to travel to/from Australia, to pay close attention to the strike, and arrange travel accordingly.
