As reported in a recent CWT Alert, the hijacker of EgyptAir (MS) flight 181 surrendered to police on the runway of Larnaca International Airport (LCA) shortly before 1500 on March 29. Seven people who had remained hostage were released without incident.

Authorities suspended all flights at LCA during the incident; incoming aircraft were diverted to Paphos Airport (PFO) in western Cyprus. Flights will likely resume once EgyptAir flight 181 is removed from the runway and investigations are complete.

Air, rail & public transport update in Brussels

As reported in a recent CWT HotNews, air, rail and public transport in Brussels are in full preparation for a partial restart, but Brussels Airport and Brussels Schuman rail stations are still closed at this time.

Air traffic:

In the past few days, Brussels Airport has made an extensive analysis of the terminal infrastructure and of the various possible scenarios for a partial recommencement of its activities. When this partial restart will take place is not yet decided. That depends on the various processes that have to be restarted. The simple fact is that a restart in the short term is not possible in the devastated infrastructure.

For all up to date information, please visit the following page:

https://www.brusselsairport2203.be/

Railway traffic:

International trains are operating a normal service again. However, because of the enhanced security measures in the main railway stations, passengers are advised to arrive in advance at their departure station with a valid identity document.

Limited access to main stations as follows:

  • Bruxelles-Midi

  • Bruxelles-Central

  • Bruxelles-Nord

  • Bruxelles-Luxembourg

  • Antwerp-Central

Exceptional measures regarding ticket exchange or refund as follows:

Thalys

All Thalys tickets booked for a journey between 22 and 29 March can be changed for another travel date at no extra cost until Tuesday 29 March. Unused Thalys tickets for a journey between 22 and 29 March can also be refunded at no cost until 23 April. Thalys passengers are invited, especially if they have luggage, to arrive at the platform around 20 minutes before departure in order to pass through the gates and have their luggage scanned without rush.

Eurostar

Eurostar tickets booked on the Brussels-London route (for travels between 22 and 29 March included) and on the Lille-London route (for travels on 22 March) can be exchanged within 60 days for another travel date within 120 days. Eurostar tickets booked on the Brussels-London route for 22 and 23 March can also be refunded at no extra costs. Security has been increased in all Eurostar stations. Security and immigration checks are therefore taking longer than usual and Eurostar passengers are advised to check in 60 minutes before departure at all stations.

TGV Brussels-France

TGV® Brussels-France tickets for travelling from or to Brussels-Midi between 22 and 29 March can be entirely refunded until Tuesday 29 March.

ICE Brussels-Frankfurt

All unused ICE tickets valid from 22 March to 11 April on the Belgium-Germany route can be refunded at no cost.

InterCity

InterCity Brussels-Amsterdam and other cross-border InterCity, EuroCity and regional services

Tickets for travelling from/to Brussels or Brussels Airport on 22 and 23 March can be refunded at no cost.

Public Transport:

Metro lines 1/5 and 2/6 are operated between 0700 and 1900 (last departure 1830) on its entire route but trains will not stop in all stations. The underground tram network will be operated from the start until the end of service. A small number of stations will not be open. All the bus and tram lines are operating. Bus 21 only operates between Luxemburg and NATO.

CWT China reminds travelers who have plans to go to Belgium, to pay close attention to local safety situations as well as all transportation status, and arrange travel accordingly. For travelers already in Belgium, please take extra precaution to ensure personal safety, avoid any unnecessary outdoor activities or crowded places.
