France extends nationwide state of emergency through July 26
As reported in a recent CWT Alert, both the upper and lower houses of the French parliament have approved a measure extending a nationwide state of emergency through July 26. The country's security apparatus will maintain extreme vigilance nationwide during two high-profile sporting events in the months of June and July - the UEFA European Championship (Euro 2016) and the Tour de France. The state of emergency should not significantly affect business operations or travel in France. However, tighter border controls, periodic security disturbances, and transport disruptions will likely cause inconveniences.
French airspace remains open and international flights continue to operate normally. Expect a visible security presence at Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), and other major international airports. Heightened security measures - including extensive screening for passengers, luggage, and cargo - could prompt delays.
CWT China reminds travelers already in, or have plans to travel to France, to pay close attention to the security measures in the coming months, take extra precaution to ensure personal safety and arrange travel accordingly.
