European LVD Directive 2006/95/EC updated to 2014/35/EU

The new LVD Directive 2014/35/EU has been published on the Official Journal of the European Union (L 96) on 29 March 2014, which will repeal the old LVD Directive 2006/95/EC, in alignment to the NLF (New Legislative Framework). 

Effect date:

●  2014/35/EU must be applied as of 20 April 2016. Member States shall adopt and transit 2014/35/EU into their national laws by 19 April 2016. 

●  Electrical equipment which is in conformity with 2006/95/EC shall not be impeded placing on the market before 20 April 2016.

The main changes in the 2014/35/EU:

A. The new chapter 2 (Obligations of economic operators):

Clarifies obligations of the manufacturer or importer.

Product label needs to include not only clear contact details of the manufacturer or importer, but also a type, batch or serial number, if that's not possible it may be included in the packaging or documentation.

B. Annex I

Domestic animals have been added to persons & property where the product must not become hazardous.

C. Annex II

Custom built evaluation kits destined for professionals to be used solely at research and development facilities for such purposes have been added to exemptions.

D. Annex III (internal production control)

Risk analysis has been added to the technical documentation.

E. Requirements for the conformity assessment procedure

First, harmonized standards that were published in the OJ (L96) are to be consulted, alternatively, the IEC standards, and if no IEC standards are available for the product in question, suitable national standards can be used.

F. Especially

●  Conformity assessment should remain solely the obligation of the manufacturer. 

●  A notified body does not involve in the union safeguard procedure.
