A new substance of very high concern added to the Candidate List

The Candidate List ofsubstances of very high concern (SVHCs) for authorisation now contains 169substances.

Helsinki, 20June 2016 - ECHA has added one new SVHC to the Candidate List due to thecarcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic for reproduction, persistent, bioaccumulativeand toxic (PBT), and very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB) propertiesof the substance.

Substanceincluded in the Candidate List for authorisation on 20 June 2016 and its SVHCproperties:

The CandidateList is a list of substances that may have serious effects on human health orthe environment. Substances on the Candidate List are also known as"substances of very high concern". The aim of publishing such a listis to inform the general public and industry that these substances arecandidates for possible inclusion in the Authorisation List. Once they are onthe Authorisation List, industry will need to apply for permission to continueusing the substance after the sunset date.

Companies mayhave legal obligations resulting from the inclusion of the substance in theCandidate List. These obligations may apply to the listed substance on its own,in mixtures or in articles. In particular, any supplier of articles containinga Candidate List substance above a concentration of 0.1% (weight by weight) hascommunication obligations towards customers down the supply chain andconsumers. In addition, importers and producers of articles containing thesubstance have six months from the date of its inclusion in the Candidate List(20 June 2016) to notify ECHA.
