April 6, 2016, the Indian Ministry of Environment (MoEFCC) published 'the Regulation of Polychlorinated Biphenyls Order, 2016'. It shall come into force on the date of its final publication in the Official Gazette. It requires the use of Polychlorinated Biphenyls in any form shall be completely prohibited by 31st December, 2025.

Characteristics and use of PCBs
Physical and chemical properties of PCBs are extremely stable, highly acid and alkali resistance and anti-oxidation, non-corrosive to metal, it has good electrical insulating properties and excellent heat resistance.
PCBs are widely used in capacitors and transformers used in power systems, conducting oil, hydraulic oil, vacuum pumps, electrical switches, regulators, insulated cables; lubricants, surface coatings, plasticizers, additives.
