Robert Tse Ping Wang was born in Taiwan July 5, 1949. His father was the Director General of Railways for Jiangsu Province, before fleeing to Taiwan with Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek and the retreating Kuomintang forces in 1949. Robert grew up in post-civil war Taipei as people from all over China tried to fit into the chaotic little island in the 1950s and 1960s and later during the boom of 1970s and 1980s that transformed Taiwan into one of the four legendary Asian Tiger economic miracles.

He owned and ran various successful businesses, including coffee shops and micro finance firms, before taking his ailing mother to China in the mid 1990’s in semi-retirement. There, I met my uncle and described to him the challenges encountered in starting a helmet production facility in China. He gave me advice, often commenting on what I had done wrong and what I needed to do. And then my father, a retired college professor, and a still inexperienced me got ourselves into trouble that we could not extricate ourselves from. I went to Uncle Robert and begged for his help. He refused initially by saying he was retired. I replied that he was not retired but was bored and needed a project! After consideration, he said he would join ONLY if he managed the production and thus began our partnership where at first, Robert managed production while I led development and sales.
Once Robert joined, our venture took off like a rocket and by 2000, we already were expanding to our current site in Dongguan. Working long days and nights, Robert led Strategic to expand production from just final assembly to become the vertical helmet producer the industry knows us as today.
Each step, Robert analyzed what skills and knowledge was needed and steadfastly went in that direction. He instilled in the Strategic team the mindset that we can go forward, right, left, or even backward, but to never stand still as that was always the wrong decision. Robert relentlessly pursued automating production in response to rising labor costs in China.

He stayed with our engineers many late nights working on solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems and never letting anyone give up. During the Covid years, Robert stayed in China to guide challenges of dealing with erratic government policy and industry fluctuations. And once Covid restrictions were relaxed, Robert spearheaded the expansion of our Portugal facilities and expedited the construction of our Vietnam factory. He regularly led the meetings for our global expansion, saying Strategic must give customers options – even if they have not realized it yet.
In many ways his overwork was his ultimate sacrifice. Uncle Robert valiantly overcame various chronic health issues as he led Strategic's vast production globally. But he was not able to overcome them all, as the culmination of fatigue caught up with him on Sunday January 14th when he passed away in his sleep.
He was my uncle, partner, superior and mentor. He guided us these decades and his spirit will continue to guide us for decades to come. May Uncle Robert Rest In Peace. We at Strategic will never forget his "Can Do" spirit, which we will carry forth as our banner in market battles yet to come.
