Title: Market Development Manager-Metals Industry
Report to: Head of Global Market Development -China
Department: Global Market Development - China
Location: Shanghai

Role Description:

  1. Provide insight and guidance into the structure and dynamics of the Metals market

  2. Support the development of the Global Sector Strategy including Strategy Definition & Communication,

  3. Participate in the Regional Market Sector Peer Team

  4. Identification, prioritisation, positioning and development of opportunities including demand-side value propositions and early phase options.

  5. Execution of Customer/ Opportunity Assessment and Strategic Account Management Process.

  6. Development of an opportunity pipeline that will deliver the investment and sales targets for GBU and LE.

Primary Responsibility:

  1. For specific Market Sector support the development of the Global GBU Tonnage/ LE Strategy, including:
    - Monitor and interpret regional industry activities and market trends
    - Identify & evaluate emerging industry technologies that will impact the Gases business
    - Validate Strategy through industry/customer networks and internal stakeholders
    - Develop information, analysis and insight on competitor activities
    - Identify priority clusters and lead cluster studies
    - Communicate and seek alignment of Tonnage/ LE Strategy with internal stakeholders
    - Initiate regular dialogue with internal stakeholders to agree on prioritisation of opportunities

  2. Support the Sector Peer Team activity in the identification and positioning of project opportunities in line with the Tonnage/ LE Strategy including the development and presentation of the Opportunity Assessment Paper. Activities include:
    - Customer evaluation including assessment of customer viability, process and/or technology risks
    providing insight so that informed decisions can be made
    - Develop demand-side value proposition through customer engagement
    - Provide initial evaluation of customers preference for Supply Scheme or Plant Sale
    - Develop customer tactics with Business Development/ LE Sales
    - Ensure alignment of opportunity development priorities with BD Hubs, LE and RBU
    - Act as part of Market Sector Peer Team and support exchange of best practice/ information within the Peer Team to assist efficient execution of the segment strategy.

  3. Support development and execution of Strategic Account Management process for selected customers.

  4. Represent Linde at appropriate Trade fairs, conferences to publicise Linde Group capabilities

Required Qualification:

  1. Professional qualification, skills and experience:
    - Significant experience relevant to the sector industry and geography
    - First degree in science/engineering (to fit sector), advanced degree or MBA preferred
    - Considerable experience in a multi-cultural business environment, including in leadership roles
    - Demonstrable Business Development/ Sales experience
    - Project execution experience desirable

Personal qualification and competencies:

  1. Functional skills:
    - Strategic thinking and capable of innovative approaches to problem solving
    - Proven track record of finding customers and opportunities, planning their development with profitable results.
    - Successful Project and Team management skills
    - Successful customer management experience.

  2. Managerial skills:
    - Demonstrated ability to motivate/align personnel into a common strategic direction and superior
    performance across a global team and diverse cultures
    - Ability to develop high calibre talent to build a strong market development organization

  3. Interpersonal skills:
    - Possesses strong communications skills at all levels
    - Ability to influence and develop strategic relationships (both internal and external)
    - Demonstrated ability to work cohesively in a team environment

  4. Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and improve existing processes/programs
