Safer and lighter – Chrysler Pacifica Hot Stamped Laser Welded Blank Front Door Ring
After the 2014 Honda Acura MDX, the Hot Stamped Laser Welded Blank (LWB) Door Ring technology has been applied on another car model – 2017 Chrysler Pacifica.
A Front Door Ring is used on this car which has been revealed in North America International Auto Show 2016.
As successor of the successful Chrysler Town & Country, Pacifica carries full expectation of Chrysler on light weighting and advanced car safety. ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles collaborated through design phase to obtain efficient and stringent technical achievements.
The application of Hot Stamped LWB Door Ring allows to generate great technical benefits:
weight reduction
part consolidation
material cost reduction
improved part performance and simplified manufacturing process

Thanks to the application of Door Ring solution and Laser Welded Blank technology, about 10kg weight saving has been achieved comparing to the spot welded baseline solution.

And the crash performance has been greatly improved from the last generation.
