阿布扎比，作为阿联酋首都与最大酋长国，拥有着阿联酋90%的石油储备，以其所代表的中东北非地区，是一个新兴的亿万级光储市场。由于该地煤炭资源短缺和大量的可再生能源尚未开发，目前的电力结构多以传统能源发电为主，能源结构单一。而其所处的地理区位，全年降水量少、太阳能辐射充足、光照条件优越，为光伏发展提供了有利的空间。
近年来，中东北非各国开始重视能源结构的调整，纷纷推出新能源发展计划，在政策和资金方面加大了对光伏等可再生能源的支持力度。计划到2050年，阿联酋投资7000亿美元，可再生能源项目将产生超过70GW的电力。
