On June 22nd, 2018, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a final rule exempting certain engineered wood products from mandatory third-party testing, used to demonstrate compliance with lead, heavy metal and phthalate requirements in children’s products.
The final rule applies to products that incorporate untreated and unfinished engineered wood products (EWPs). These include:
particle board;
hardwood plywood; and
medium-density fibreboard made from virgin wood orpre-consumer wood waste.
The CPSC says such products do not contain lead, regulated elements or specified phthalates that exceed limits set out in its statutes for toys, children's products and childcare articles. It can therefore reduce third-party testing costs by exempting these products from it.
The new rule takes effect on July 23rd, 2018.
Summary of 16 CFR 1252 exemptions:

MTS reminds related companies to timely follow up on new laws and regulations, produce and export according to requirements, and pay attention to the requirements of the declaration of conformity. Scientific safety assessments must be carried out during the product design phase to the bulk production phase to ensure that relevant products meet the new regulatory requirements and avoid export risk.
