广东省造光绪元宝双龙寿字币属祝寿纪念银币类，并无流通。据《述庵秘录》记载：巡抚广东，以甲午入都祝嘏（慈禧六旬寿），希大用。时内地通用银，广东独制银币。刚谓总办某道曰：“为我制银币三万，携入都。”某曰：“诺。”制成赍往，刚默然。至都，因内侍献慈禧，且言刚毅知万寿赏号繁，特铸币以表敬意。慈禧故喜，誉币新色可喜，遂饬收。刚寻入军机，某道亦不敢索偿。 译：广东巡抚入宫祝贺慈禧六十大寿，慈禧太后对其说，为我铸三万银币。答曰：遵命。铸成后，献于慈禧太后时，且称慈禧为万寿，所以特铸此币献于太后。

此枚钱币正面以珠圈为界，可分为内外两个部分：珠圈以外，上端为“广东省造”四字，下方为“库平重一两”字，左右两侧各铸一蝙蝠图案；珠圈以内，铸有满、汉文“光绪元宝”四字。背面也以珠圈为界：珠圈外面，铸有双龙图案；珠圈里面铸有一圆形“寿”字，工艺精湛、构思奇特。使人有巧夺天工、出神入化的观感，被列入中国近代机制币十大珍之一。
