Hello, my name is Dr. Steven Matarelli, and I am the Chief Nursing Officer at the Guangzhou R&F Hospital project and an emergency department Registered Nurse.

In Parts 1 and 2 of this video series, I described heat-related medical conditions such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Here are some basic tips and education to help prevent heat related injuries for yourself, your family, and your community.

Extreme outside temperatures can lead to a heat related injury. Infants and small children, the elderly, people who work outside, and people with medical conditions are more likely to experience heat-related injuries with any prolonged outdoor activities. 


极端的室外温度会导致与热相关的损伤。婴幼儿、老人、在户外工作的人以及有健康问题的人,在任何长时间的户外活动中都更有可能遭受与高温的伤害。

Did you know that the roadway and the sidewalk can be 40 to 60 degrees hotter than the air temperature? That means if it is 38 degrees Celsius outside, the road or sidewalk could be as hot as 60 to 71 degrees! 


您知道道路和人行道的温度可能比气温高 40 到 60 ℃吗?这意味着如果室外温度为 38 ℃,道路或人行道的温度可能高达 60 到 71  ℃!


Wearing proper footwear for yourself and your children is important. Do not walk on sidewalks or roads when it is hot as this could lead to burns on the skin, which may be severe. 


给自己和孩子穿合适的鞋子很重要。天气炎热时,请勿在人行道或道路上行走,因为这可能会导致皮肤灼伤,甚至可能会很严重。


Remember your pets! The same hot sidewalk temperature can be felt on their feet and may result in burns that require veterinary treatment. 


请不要忘记您的宠物。它们的脚同样可以感受到炎热的人行道温度,并可能导致需要兽医治疗的烧伤。

Let’s think about the temperature of our car interior. 


我们不妨思考一下汽车的内部温度。


The interior of a parked car on a sunny day where the temperature is 35 degrees Celsius can reach 47 degrees Celsius in less than 1 hour. Parking a car in the shade or a parking garage helps to lower the interior car temperature but the temperature can still be dangerously high. 


在阳光明媚的日子,一辆停放的汽车最开始的温度为 35℃,不到 1 小时就可以达到 47℃!将汽车停在阴凉处或停车场有助于降低车内温度,但温度仍可以达到危险水平。


You should never leave people or animals in parked cars on hot days unless the car remains turned on and air conditioning is provided. Within the same 1 hour it takes to heat the car interior, a person sitting in this car is also absorbing heat to a dangerous level. Children and the elderly can die within this same 1 hour period. 


在炎热的天气里,请勿将人或动物留在停放的汽车里,除非发动机和空调处于启动状态。在车内温度升高的 1 小时里,坐在这辆汽车中的人的体温也会上升到危险的程度。在这1小时内,儿童和老人可能会有死亡的风险。


In the United States, an average of 30 to 50 children and teenagers die each year after remaining or being trapped in parked cars that are exposed to the sun. 


在美国,平均每年有 30 至 50 名儿童和青少年因留在或被困在停放在阳光下的汽车中死亡。


In China, the number of child deaths related to heat is cars is not fully known, but as car ownership has increased in recent years, especially in more rural areas, the number of opportunities for child deaths in hot cars is likely also increasing. 


在中国,因车内温度过高引起的儿童死亡人数尚不明确,但随着汽车保有量的增加,尤其是在更多的农村地区,由车内高温引起儿童死亡的概率也可能在增加。


So, Let’s keep cool on hot days! 


所以,在炎热的日子里要保持凉爽!



温馨提示


• Wear light colored to help prevent heat absorption. 


穿浅色衣服有助于防止热量吸收。


• Wear loose fitting clothes so that air can circulate around your body.


穿宽松的衣服,让空气在身体周围流通。


• Do not spend long periods of time in the sun.


不要长时间在阳光下晒太阳。


• Limit your time at the swimming pool. Even when in the cool water, harmful sun rays can reach your skin. Always remember to apply sun cream 30 minutes before sun exposure and remember to reapply after swimming. 


减少在游泳池里的时间。即使在凉爽的水中,有害的阳光也会影响您的皮肤。永远记得在晒太阳前 30 分钟涂抹防晒霜,并且在游泳后也要重新涂抹。


• Drink plenty of fluids even when you do not feel thirsty. Do not have drinks with caffeine and alcohol as they can lead to more dehydration. 


即使您不感到口渴,也要多喝水。不要喝含咖啡因和酒精的饮料,因为它们可能会导致更严重的脱水。


• When outside and not feeling the need to urinate?  You need to drink more fluids. Dark urine is a danger sign that you are not getting enough to drink.


外出时不想小便?你需要喝更多的液体。深色尿液是一个危险信号,表明您没有饮用充足的水。


• Walk on the shady side of the street, use underground walkways, and use umbrellas to shade the sun.


走在街道的阴凉处,可以使用地下人行道,并打伞遮阳。


• Check on your elderly neighbors and family often to ensure they have a cool environment.


经常联系年事已高的家人和邻居,确保他们有一个凉爽的环境。



特别提示


Remember, if you are spending long periods of time outside, especially in the sun, and begin to feel weak, very sweaty, or nauseated, these are signs of heat cramps or exhaustion and require you to rehydrate yourself and move into a cooler location. 


请记住,如果您长时间待在户外,尤其是在阳光下,并且开始感到虚弱、出汗或恶心,这些都是热痉挛或热衰竭的迹象,需要补充水分,并待在凉爽的地方。


Hot skin, confusion, and sudden unconsciousness are medical emergencies to be treated at your community hospital emergency room. 


皮肤发热、精神错乱和突然失去知觉,是需要到社区医院急诊室就医的紧急情况。
