辛亥革命胜利后，清帝退位，中华民国成立，中国民主主义革命的先驱者孙中山就任中华民国临时大总统。民国成立后，铜元仍继续大量流通使用。民国初期铜元为民国元年至民国七年，其种类有“开国纪念币”、“共和纪念币”及铸有省名的民国铜元等。1914年，铜元正式改称“铜币”，民国发行的铜币与清最大的区别是龙纹被换成了由稻穗组成的嘉禾纹。各省铸造的铜元大多为两面叉的国旗图案，并有“开国纪念币”或“中华民国铜币”字样。这一时期的新式铜元与清末旧式铜元混合流通，使铜元的混乱程度进一步恶化。本文主要介绍两枚为一组的枚湖南省造双旗币。

此组湖南省造双旗币当制钱二十文，十文包浆圆润，古旧自然。铜币正面中央为两面交叉的铁血十八星旗和中华民国国旗，上方为中文“湖南省造”四字，下方为中文币值，左右各有折枝花卉图案。铜币背面铸有图案为稻穗组成的嘉禾纹，上环英文“中华民国”字样，下环英文字样。此组湖南省造双旗币当制钱二十文，十文虽历经沧桑，但纹路依然隐约可见，保存完好，图文有神，压力到位，气色自然，包浆老道，流通痕迹自然，钱币上面的绿锈见证了其历史年代的沉积，具有极高的艺术价值与收藏价值。
