北宋时期，哲宗于元符三年正月病逝时无子，太后向氏于同月立赵佶为帝，次年改年号“建中靖国”。圣宋元宝，宋徽宗赵佶建中靖国元年始铸，是仁宗“皇宋通宝”之后又一种不以年号命名的非年号钱。“圣宋元宝”钱有小平，折二对钱多种。钱文以篆书、行书两种书体书写、字多变化，皆为旋读。据宋史记载：“建中靖国元年，陕西转运副使孙杰以铁钱多而铜钱少，请复铸铜钱，侯铜铁钱轻重稍均，即听兼铸”。是时所铸行的“圣宋元宝”为国号钱，或为尚未改元前就开始铸钱的称法，虽史无明载，但其钱文大多篆、行成对，版别亦为孔繁，其后崇宁年间仍继续铸造。本文主要介绍一枚圣宋元宝。

此枚圣宋元宝字迹清晰深俊，钱文书写有范，笔划有力，横直竖立，起收自如，字形结构协调，布局端正规矩，铜材优良，整体铜色熟旧感鲜明，铸体方正圆矩，穿轮干净，钱体完好，品相甚佳。圣宋元宝为方孔钱，古人认为大自然是有形的事物和无形的意念的结合体，大自然在人们面前的直接展示就是天和地。古人认为圆为天之形、方为地之态，天地产生了万物自然也产生了人类。圆象征着平等、包容、和谐的道，方象征着尊卑有序、松紧有度、远近有别的理。人在天地之间繁衍生息，一切行为和观念都应该遵循天地之道。而在人类生存活动中，商品的交换影响着关系着所有人的生存，影响着关系着所有人的喜怒哀乐。
