清朝灭亡之后，袁世凯出任大总统。北洋政府鉴于当时铸币、纸币十分复杂，流通的中外货币在百种以上，规格不一，流通混乱，折算繁琐，民众积怨，决定统一制币。当时，袁世凯为了巩固国内政局稳定，发展民族经济，也为“制宪”和“称帝”作准备，于是毅然决定在全国统一币制，同时也想借助货币改制以解决军费问题，便决定铸发国币。袁世凯为了提高自己的统治地位，把他的头像铸于币面，“袁大头”由此而来。袁大头是民国时期主要流通货币之一，袁大头是对袁世凯像系列硬币的口语俗称。本文主要介绍一枚民国三年袁大头。

此枚民国三年袁大头几经历代的传承和沧桑，更显其自然和古朴的旧币品相。钱币正面中央为袁世凯左侧五分像，上铸中文繁体“中华民国三年”字样，“民”字多一点，“年”后没有造字，符合民国三年袁大头的规格。钱币背面为嘉禾图案和币值，两条嘉禾左右相交，饱满圆润，下系结带，钱文清晰，浮雕感强烈，用手摸之，质感极佳。嘉禾古称生长奇异的禾，古人以之为吉祥的征兆。亦泛指生长茁壮的禾稻。寓意国家重视农桑、以民生为本，其另一思想取其家和之谐音，寓意”家和万事兴“之意。

It also refers to the growing and thriving rice. This three-year-old Yuan Datou's Qian Wen is clear and natural.
