在中国古代，黄色有着特殊的代表愿意，它象征着权利，富贵，光明和智慧。黄色曾经是皇族的专用色。同时黄色本身还具有浓郁的宗教气息，以至于从佛教建筑到僧侣服饰以及寺院装饰都会有到黄色。黄色也是最古老的颜色这一。中国先民懂的用栀子的果实制成颜料。因为，栀子中含有“藏花酸”的黄色素。到了南北朝以后，又有了地黄，槐树花，黄檗，姜黄，拓黄等植物染料。除此之外还有石黄，黄丹等矿物可作黄色颜料。

黄釉在清代更有明确的使用制度，器物内外皆施黄釉的为帝。后及太后所用，皇贵妃则用外黄内白的器物。贵妃用黄地绿龙器，嫔妃则用蓝地黄龙器，其它的人皆不可用黄色器。

此大清乾隆黄釉赏瓶，造型规正，圆口外撇，颈修长，溜肩下渐敛，圈足。为典型乾隆时期赏瓶式样，但从黄釉和龙纹分析，只有皇家或皇亲国戚才能赏用此物，为突显高贵，瓶面图案更是有条红龙。瓶内及底施青白釉，外施黄釉，油亮匀称。一般情况，黄釉为低温釉且釉面玻化程度高而易开片，但此瓶莹润晶亮而纹丝未裂，像永宣时期宝石红釉一样夺人眼球。
