清朝光绪年间，洋务运动影响到铸币业，两广总督张之洞曾于光绪十三年委托使英大臣在英国订购全套造币机器，铸造银元和铜元。其后，各省纷纷仿效。包括广东钱局在内，许多造币机均订购自英国伦敦伯明翰造币有限公司。英国大工业的介入，使光绪元宝也沾染上西方色彩，钱币正面鲜然可见满汉文化的融合，而钱背却明确标示了西方文化的介入。湖北省造光绪元宝铸期历时甚长，历经十余载，币模几经更替，即使同一铸造年份亦往往由于修模、币材、工艺技术、工厂管理等诸多因素，造成版别异常繁杂。本文主要介绍一枚湖北省造光绪元宝。
During the reign of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty, the Westernization Movement affected the minting industry. In the thirteenth year of Guangxu, Governor Zhang Zhidong of Guangzhou and Guangzhou commissioned the British minister to order a complete set of minting machines in the United Kingdom to cast silver and copper dollars. Since then, provinces have followed suit. Many coins, including the Guangdong Money Bureau, are ordered from Birmingham Mint Co., Ltd., London, UK. With the intervention of British industry, Guangxu Yuanbao was also stained with Western color. The integration of Manchu and Han cultures could be seen on the front of coins, while Qianbei clearly indicated the intervention of Western cultures. Yuanbao in Maoguangxu, Hubei Province, has a long casting period. After more than ten years, the coin models have been replaced several times. Even in the same casting year, the editions are often very complicated due to many factors, such as mold repair, coin material, process technology, factory management and so on. This paper mainly introduces a Yuanbao of Guangxu in Hubei Province.

此枚湖北省造光绪元宝古旧自然，钱币正面珠圈内铸有“光绪元宝”四字，中央为菊花纹饰，珠圈上环“湖北省造”字样，下环“当十”两字，珠圈左右分钤满文“宝源”字样。钱币背面为蟠龙图，品相精致，风格独特，上环英文“湖北省”字样，下环英文“当十”。此枚钱币铸工精美，品相较好，包浆入骨，流通痕迹自然，边齿对，具有极高的投资价值和收藏价值。有着历史熏陶，是价值很高的革命文物，具有深远的历史纪念意义，同时，还是考古和研究中国历史文化难得的实物。
The old and natural Guangxu Yuanbao in Hubei Province is coined with four characters of "Guangxu Yuanbao" in the front bead circle, chrysanthemum decoration in the center, the word "Made in Hubei" in the upper ring, the word "Dang Shi" in the lower ring, and the word "Baoyuan" in the Manchu language in the left and right sides of the bead circle. On the back of the coin is a picture of a dragon with exquisite taste and unique style. It has the words "Hubei Province" in the upper ring and "Dang Ten" in the lower ring. This coin is exquisite in minting, good in appearance, wrapped in pulp and bone, with natural circulation traces and pairs of edges and teeth. It has very high investment value and collection value.
