辛亥革命后，光复的十七省代表在南京推选孙中山为中华民国临时大总统。由于币制尚未建立，主要的造币厂，大都仍沿用前清钢模铸造银币，以供流通需要。由于币制混乱，临时政府财政部长陈锦涛，呈文大总统孙中山，鼓铸纪念银币以整顿。孙中山令财政部行文，同意鼓铸纪念币，并训令财政部速制新模，分令各省造币厂照式鼓铸。不久，财政部就颁下新模给江南、湖北、广东等造币厂依式铸造，这就是中华民国孙中山像开国纪念币的由来。本文主要介绍一枚孙中山开国纪念币。
After the Revolution of 1911, the representatives of the recovered 17 provinces elected Sun Yat-sen as the interim president of the Republic of China in Nanjing. Since the currency system has not yet been established, most of the major mints still use the former steel mould to cast silver coins for circulation. Due to currency confusion, Chen Jintao, Minister of Finance of the Interim Government, and Sun Yat-sen, President of Chengwen University, drummed up commemorative silver coins to rectify the situation. Sun Yat-sen ordered the Ministry of Finance to write a letter agreeing to coin commemorative coins by drum. He also instructed the Ministry of Finance to make new models quickly and ordered the provincial mints to coin by drum. Soon after, the Ministry of Finance issued a new model for mints in Jiangnan, Hubei and Guangdong, which was the origin of Sun Yat-sen's commemorative coin like the founding of the Republic of China. 此枚孙中山开国纪念币钱文清晰，古旧自然，钱币正面中央铸有孙中山侧面五分像，外围双圈，珠圈在外，线圈在内。珠圈内铸有孙中山侧面肖像，上环中文“中华民国”四字，下环“开国纪念币”字样，左右分别铸有长枝花饰。钱币背面中央为嘉禾图案和币值，中央铸有“壹圆”字样，两株嘉禾左右交互，下系结带，上环英文“民国”字样，下环英文“中华民国诞生”。藏品虽然经历了无穷岁月的洗礼，但是如今保存依然较为完好。其色泽光鲜自然，纹饰深浅适度，边缘线条粗细均匀，间距也疏密一致。
