Step 10 of Dyeing and Finishing: Second Round of Boiling Gambiered Guangdong Silk
After the preliminary complex dyeing and finishing treatments (including 6 applications of gambier fluid, 6 sealings with gambier fluid, 2 sealings with hot gambier fluid, and 12 sealings with gambier fluid at room temperature combined with sun-drying, totaling 26 dyeing and finishing processes), the shade and saturation of the gray gambiered Guangdong silk have reached approximately 90%.
To ensure optimal results for the subsequent critical process—"Guo Wu" (mordanting)—the gray silk must undergo a second round of boiling.
The parameters for the second boiling process are as follows:
Method: Four Passes Water (i.e., the highest concentration of gambier fluid).
Water Temperature: 50°C - 60°C.
Boiling Duration: 4 - 5 minutes.
After this boiling process, the weight of the gray silk is reduced by approximately 12%.
