Xiangyun Sha, originally known as "Liang Sha", specifically referred to a silk gauze (a lightweight, open-work fabric woven with the leno jacquard technique, commonly called "twisted-eye openwork") patterned with designs such as swastika motifs, victory flowers, walnut patterns, or checkboards. The gauze was then processed through sun-dyeing (a unique dyeing and finishing technique for Xiangyun Sha). Later, its meaning expanded to become the general term for "Liang Sha Chou", which encompasses both the open-work Liang gauze (Sha) and the plain-weave Liang satin (Chou). It is important to note that Liang Sha and Liang Chou are entirely different in terms of their weaving techniques.

Process Positioning: Core quality inspection step before leaving the factory. After sunning, precise length measurement is performed for each piece of Gambiered Guangdong Silk to achieve:

Operating Specification
Spreading the Greige Silk
Spread the finished Gambiered Guangdong Silk completely flat on even grassland to eliminate creases and tension, ensuring an accurate measurement baseline.
Warp-direction Measurement
Use a calibrated meter ruler to closely follow the fabric surface along the warp direction (lengthwise) of the silk piece. Measure in segments and sum to obtain the total length.
Dual-personnel Verification
The warehouse keeper performs the operation while the inspector simultaneously records the value, implementing a double-check to prevent errors.
Piece-end Marking Clearly mark the final length value on the piece end
 (starting end of the silk piece) as a permanent identification label.

Key Data: Shrinkage Patterns and Industrial Value

  1. Shrinkage Phenomenon: After the degummed/bleached greige silk undergoes the sunning process, irreversible length shrinkage commonly occurs.

  2. Shrinkage Formula: Finished Product Shrinkage Ratio = (Original Length of Degummed/Bleached Silk − Measured Length) ÷ Original Length of Degummed/Bleached Silk × 100%

    • Empirical Value: This shrinkage ratio ≈ the inherent shrinkage rate of the degummed/bleached silk (caused by gambier liquid penetration and fiber physical tightening due to sun exposure).

  3. Application Significance:

    • Provides pre-shrinkage compensation parameters for garment pattern making, ensuring stable clothing dimensions.

    • Enables reverse monitoring of sunning process consistency (abnormal shrinkage ratios indicate temperature/humidity control deviations).

Quality Control Notes:
⚠️ Measurement Surface: Must be performed on grassland/a flexible interface; hard ground will cause data distortion.
⚠️ Tool Management: Calibrate the meter ruler for accuracy before starting work each day; error must be ≤0.5%.
⚠️ Environment Recording: Record the temperature and humidity during measurement (e.g., 28°C/65% RH), as the shrinkage ratio is environmentally sensitive.
