Transmitting the right information, at the right time and to the right recipient: this is the purpose of MES (Manufacturing Execution System), a digital platform that manages the piloting and monitoring of production operations. This is a key step in a broader process of digital transformation to improve performance.

Over the past year or so, many MES companies have seen a sharp increase in the volume of incoming orders from small and medium-sized businesses. Unlike large groups, which are increasingly well equipped with performance measurement solutions, small and medium-sized companies had not yet taken the digitalization turn.
They are now encouraged by France Relance, the government's plan for Industry 4.0. The sector of digital performance management tools is naturally accompanying this movement. The Covid crisis has had an accelerating effect on the digitalization process in companies, and industry is no exception.

Among the various expectations surrounding digitalization, performance measurement software editors have noted that the health crisis has accelerated a fundamental trend: the increase in demand for machine performance.
Where the emphasis was placed a few years ago on regulations and certification (quality, traceability), it is now the machine that crystallizes all expectations.

"If a set of equipment produces more, the manufacturer can postpone certain investments," says François Coulloudon, CEO of Teeptrak.

The keystone of this search for optimization is the proper use of data. Measuring well is important, but knowing what to do with the recovered data is essential to help make decisions and give yourself the means to optimize your performance. "This is one of the major challenges of the next few years: analyzing data to make sense of it is not so obvious, it requires an excellent knowledge of the machine: what data to extract? How to interpret it?" asks Laurent Siegfried, Smart Up Industry delegate for GIMELEC, a group of companies in the French electronics industry.
"Manufacturers are looking for this interpretation capacity, which will certainly come from artificial intelligence, but which will always be driven by humans.

Traceability of materials and processes, document management integrated into the software, web portals integrating all the functionalities: "the service offer is increasingly horizontal", analyses Laurent Siegfried.
For the last 6 or 7 years, the world of solutions and services and the world of software publishers have been coming closer together.
Today, the "pure" publishers, who do not offer associated services, are weakened.
