Planning your land use properly is an essential part of the success of your farm and can prevent making costly mistakes. Soils may vary considerably within a field and each variation has different land use potentials. Reading the soils in your fields is key for knowing what they can sustain, whether it is a field of maize or a house.


Our expert team of soil scientists will assess your fields and produce a map delineating the different soil types in your field. Our expertise and technology will allow us to take targeted soil samples, hence reducing the total number of soil samples that would otherwise be required when doing grid sampling. We will then select strategic spots to dig soil pits in the area.


We will then send soil samples to our labs which will enable us to characterize all your soil types in terms of chemical, Phphysical and biological characteristics. Each soil type will come with its profile description and with expert advice on the crops it can sustain.

AERIAL CROP IMAGERY

 

OVERVIEW

Precision farming is a farming management concept based on observing and responding to in-field soil and crop variations.



Aerial crop photography involves flying over the farmers field with a sophisticated multispectral camera using a single sensor capable of capturing visible light wavelengths longer than 520nm and near-infrared wavelengths up to 920nm can help assess these in-field variations distinguishing healthy crop areas from those that are less healthy. These variations, through multispectral imaging, are given in the form of various vegetative indices among which NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetative Index) provides excellent information regarding the health of a crop. Using this cutting edge technology and our experienced precision agriculture and GIS team we provide our clients with rapid, in season crop health (NDVI) maps.



The higher the NDVI value, the greener the color, and the healthier the crop. Unhealthy areas are depicted using yellow and brown colours showing low NDVI values. Using these crop maps, loaded onto Trimble Handheld GPS device, our field agronomy team can carry out site specific soil and leaf sampling for testing in our laboratory including soil testing, crop disease and pest diagnosis and leaf nutrient analysis.



Based on the lab results, we can then provide site specific management recommendations. In addition, in low NDVI areas we will check for additional soil problems such as soil compaction or water logging. These areas can then be marked off, and expensive crop input such as fertilizer, herbicide or pesticide is not wasted over an unproductive, low potential area within your fields.

These devices can be used in the field for a variety of applications such as mapping, capturing images, utilizing management grids for soil sampling, variable rate application map usage etc. The handheld devices currently available are:

JUNO 3

The Trimble Juno 3 handheld computer is an economical solution that includes an integrated GPS, digital camera, and optional cellular modem.  Install the Farm Works Mobile software (sold separately) on the Juno to calculate field acreage, locate soil sample points by grid or zone, scout for pests or problem areas, or to collect important field records.



The next generation of the Trimble Juno series—the Juno 3B and 3D handhelds are tougher, faster, and more modern. Each Juno handheld offers the Windows Embedded Handheld operating system which is more intuitive and easier to navigate.



With the Trimble Juno series handhelds, you are empowered for every day fieldwork with a fully integrated, GPS-based data collection system. Farmers and agribusinesses can improve their efficiency when performing GPS mapping, scouting, soil sampling, field record keeping, and other important jobs. Data is safe and secure with its redesigned shell which is resistant to dust, water, and shock.



Standard wireless capabilities include built-in Bluetooth, giving you cable-free connections to peripherals such as RFID readers and barcode scanners, and the built in cellular modem enables you to exchange data wirelessly utilizing the Connected Farm.  The Juno handheld gives you flexible connectivity methods to meet your farm business needs.

THE JUNO T41

The Juno T41 is a powerful, connected, and compact solution for farmers and agronomists. The rugged handheld offers the convenience and ease-of-use of a smartphone with durability and long-term support that smartphones just don't offer.  Its slim, ergonomic design is easy to grasp and enables all-day use by hard-working professionals and demanding farmers alike.



The Juno T41 handheld has voice, SMS text and 3.75G cellular data transfer capabilities on GSM cellular networks worldwide. You can upload and download data from the cloud using Wi-Fi or WWAN connections. The 8 megapixel camera can be set to automatically include time and location data from the GPS receiver.



The Juno T41 handheld is available with Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 and includes a capable 1 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM to run software applications fast and reliably.  Physical connection to other electronic devices is supported via the Juno T41 handheld’s custom connector. This custom connector allows for the slim design while providing easy connectivity to a USB device, a 9-pin Serial device or a battery charger.

THE TRIMBLE NOMAD

The Trimble Nomad handheld computer is a rugged solution that includes an integrated GPS receiver, optional digital camera, and optional cellular modem.  Install the Farm Works Mobile software (sold separately) on the Nomad to calculate field acreage, locate soil sample points by grid or zone, scout for pests or problem areas, or to perform variable rate application.


Standard wireless capabilities include built-in Bluetooth, giving you cable-free connections to peripherals such as RFID readers and barcode scanners, and the built in cellular modem enables you to exchange data wirelessly utilizing the Office Sync solution.  No matter what your set-up, the Nomad handheld gives you flexible connectivity methods to meet your farm business needs.



Like other Trimble rugged handhelds, the Nomad computer meets rigorous MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration, humidity, altitude and extreme temperatures.  It also comes with an IP67 rating.  That means the Nomad handheld is completely sealed against dust, and it can survive immersion in up to a meter of water for 30 minutes.  Trimble rugged handhelds have proven their reliability in the field with thousands of real-world users.



Every Nomad handheld comes with an 806 MHz Marvell PXA320 XScale professor, 128 MB RAM and a hot-swappable Lithium Ion (Li-lon) battery that can work all day long without a recharge.  The Nomad computer also includes the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 software, so it runs all the applications you use most, including a wide range of third party software for industry-specific applications

OVERVIEW

Historically, the objectives of soil sampling have been to determine the average nutrient status of an entire field and apply blanket lime and fertilizer recommendations.

 

Soil sampling for precision agriculture has these same objectives with some modifications. Instead of a field, farmers are interested in the soil fertility variation within fields. They also are interested in relating trends in soil fertility levels to other field properties that are predictable or easily measured, such as yield maps. Knowledge of factors influencing soil nutrient levels including soil type, topography, cropping history, manure application, fertilizer application and levelling for irrigation will help the farmer determine the most effective sampling approach.



We offer this grid soil mapping service whereby we come to your farm, take geo-referenced samples and then generate nutrient and variable rate fertilizer maps once the soil analysis is complete. This will show the variations of specific conditions and nutrients (e.g. pH, P, K, Ca etc) within a field that has been grid sampled.



These soil fertility variations can be compared to yields maps and crop health maps (NDVI) to determine how soil fertility is affecting crop production.



The variable rate lime and fertilizer prescription maps that we process using Farmworks software are loaded into the Trimble 750 display.

Using the Field IQ system and a compatible fertilizer or lime spreader, the farmer can then vary the rate of lime and fertilizer to greatly reduce input costs.

RDS

We are the local agents for RDS (UK),  who manufacture the Ceres 8000i yield monitor.



This is a fast reacting and accurate yield monitor that can be retrofitted on to all types of combine harvester - it is a stand alone system, with no other GPS guidance equipment necessary for operation.



The RDS Ceres 8000i uses ‘state of the art’ optical sensing technology to measure live yield and displays dry/wet harvested weight. Now with integral SD card reader for straight forward transfer of data to a PC.



We offer full support and installation, including an first harvest calibration service, so that you can be sure your RDS yield monitor is giving you the most accurate informations. We also assist in data management and cleaning, and processing yield maps through Farmworks.

OVERVIEW

Deep-soil-Nitrogen testing (sampled to 60 cm depth) indicates (at the time of the test) the amount of N available to the crop in kg/Ha. It is the sum of N that could have broken down (called mineralised N) from the plant litter remaining from the last two or three seasons as well as more recent inputs of fertilizer

Many grain and horticulture farmers use deep soil N testing to assess N fertiliser requirements. The choice of 60 cm depth for mineral N sampling is a compromise between recovering all the N available to crops (crops can often take up N from depths of 1-1.3 m) and the speed and ease of sampling.

Connected Farm allows you to manage your farming business from any compatible web browser with live access. Data can be collected in the field using your smartphone or with Trimble's DCM-300 modem in the cab. Your free Connected Farm account allows you to easily view, sort, and print information so that you are able to make better management decisions from any location in the world.

Allows you to utilize a virtual dashboard of cab monitors to view fuel usage, battery voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and more. Dashboard information can be transformed into performance analysis reports that can be used to enhance productivity, efficiency, and swift decision making.



Allows you to print reports for engine hours, current locations, sensors, and utilization. These reports will show you which vehicles are underperforming or if maintenance is required so that decisions can be made in a timely manner.



Allows you to view and analyze field boundaries, scouting data, and other points of interest from the Connected Farm app. Maps can be sorted by date range and attribute type. Clicking on a flag will display captured information from the field, including the photo.
