鵲橋仙
秦觀 (1049-1100)
纖雲弄巧，飛星傳恨，
銀漢迢迢暗度。
金風玉露一相逢，便勝卻人間無數。
柔情似水，佳期如夢，
忍顧鵲橋歸路。
兩情若是久長時，又豈在朝朝暮暮。

Delicately, fine ribbons of clouds intertwine;
Stars shoot across the night sky
transmitting regret…
Secretly, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl
cross the far off Milky Way.
Amid golden wind and
jade-like dews they meet.
They're happier than the
countless separated lovers on earth anyway.
Tender as water is their love;
Sweet as a dream their reunion,
But how unbearable to see,
on the Magpie Bridge,
each other's homeward way!
If love is meant to be truly eternal,
It shouldn't hinge on
meeting each other day after day.
