The Duke Acoustofluidics Group (https://acoustofluidics.pratt.duke.edu/) is excited to invite dedicated and accomplished candidates for postdoctoral and Ph.D. positions within our team. We currently have multiple openings available. Our research lies at the intersection of physics, engineering, micro/nanotechnology, chemistry, and biomedicine, making it a vibrant and multidisciplinary environment.
Introduction to the laboratory:
We take pride in our dynamic research group, which has a track record of excellence. Our graduate students have earned over 100 prestigious awards in recognition of their outstanding research contributions. These accolades include National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellowships, Fulbright Scholarships, NASA Space Technology Research Fellowships, Baxter Young Investigator Awards, Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Awards, the Founder's Prize from the American Academy of Mechanics, Boris P. Stoicheff Memorial Scholarships from the Optical Society of America, SPIE Fellowships in Optics and Photonics, as well as Best Paper Awards at the IEEE Ultrasonics Symposiums and MicroTAS Conferences.
Following their graduation from our group, twenty-four of our former Ph.D. students and postdocs have achieved tenured or tenure-track faculty positions at renowned research universities worldwide. Enrollment requirements
Our group is centered around three core values: (1) a strong work ethic, (2) a commitment to innovation, and (3) a spirit of collaboration. We are actively seeking postdoctoral and Ph.D. candidates who exemplify these values at the highest level. We encourage applications from individuals with exceptional training in the following fields: Physics, Engineering, Biology, and Chemistry.
For candidates with a robust background in physics or engineering, we offer opportunities to pioneer new technologies. Similarly, candidates with expertise in chemistry or biology are encouraged to apply, as they can contribute to the development of novel applications for these cutting-edge technologies.
Having a strong publication record and a solid foundation in research training will be advantageous in our selection process. Typically, for Ph.D. candidates, we prioritize those who have already authored at least one first-author journal article that has been accepted.
Information about the PI
Tony Jun Huang is the William Bevan Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University. Previously he was a professor and the Huck Distinguished Chair in Bioengineering Science and Mechanics at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2005. His research interests are in the fields of acoustofluidics, optofluidics, and micro/nano systems for biomedical diagnostics and therapeutics. He has authored/co-authored over 260 peer-reviewed journal publications in these fields. His journal articles have been cited more than 30,000 times, as documented at Google Scholar (h-index: 92). He also has 26 issued or pending patents. Prof. Huang was elected a fellow (member) of National Academy of Inventers (USA) and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He was also a fellow of the following six professional societies: American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Institute of Physics (UK), and the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK). In addition, he has selected to receive many prestigious awards and honors including a 2010 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director’s New Innovator Award, a 2012 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society for Manufacturing Engineering, the 2014 IEEE Sensors Council Technical Achievement Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the 2017 Analytical Chemistry Young Innovator Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS), the 2019 Van Mow Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the 2019 Technical Achievement Award from the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). In 2022, he was named to a global list of the most highly cited researchers (cross field) by Clarivate (Web of Science).
