大家都知道，看美剧，是很好的学英语的方法。
美剧中经常出现的地道表达，是我们学习英语的重要窗口。
比如，今天无忧君要介绍的这个表达：
“take your time”
当第一眼看到这个表达时，你会怎么理解呢？
“抓紧时间”、“拿住时间”？
前几天，有朋友写了封信给外教，因为是中文，老外看不懂，于是他便请一同事帮忙翻译一下。
说完自己的需要之后，老外最后说了一句：“take your time”。
同事以为老外着急要，下班回家后，连夜帮他翻译了出来。
第二天，当老外看到自己桌上的翻译信后，显得非常惊讶，连连夸赞同事效率奇高。
其实，同事压根就不需要把信翻译得那么快。
因为，“take your time”的意思，根本不是在催你（抓紧时间）。
在英语中，“take your time”主要有两层意思。
首先，我们来了解一下第一层意思的英文释义：
said to mean that you can spend as much time as you need in doing something, or that you should slow down.
意味着你可以花费更多的时间，去做需要做的事情；或者你应该放慢速度。
也就是说，“take your time”，可以用来表示“从容不迫、从容进行、慢慢来、别着急”之意。
A:I'm gonna figure it out, so you might as welljust tell me. I'm an honor student.
我迟早能找到的，所以，不如你就直接告诉我吧。要知道，我可是高材生。
B:Take your time.
你还是慢慢找吧。
There's no rush—take your time.
别着急，慢慢来。
Take your time—there's no hurry.
悠着点—不用急。
这个表达的短语形式，即“take one's time doing sth”，表示“慢慢地干某事，从容不迫地干某事”。
需要注意的是：
“take one's time”后面接的是doing，而非动词不定式to do。
Take your time having your breakfast.
慢慢地吃个早餐。
You should take your time meeting a soul mate, even though all your friends around you have their own lovers.
就算你身边所有的朋友都有了伴侣，你也应该慢慢地寻找你的灵魂伴侣。
再来看第二层意思的英文释义：
to do something too slowly.
做某事太慢。
也就是说，“take your time”，还可以用来表示“迟到，做事太慢”的意思。
The builders are really taking their time.
这个建筑商真的太慢了。

1.ahead of time
字面意思是“时间提前”，缩略一下，也就是“提前，比约定的时间提前”的意思。
We had a date for lunch, and I said I’d call her ahead of time to decide where.

I think we’ll get there ahead of time.
我想我们会提前到达那里。
We finished 15 minutes ahead of time.
我们提前15分钟完成。
2.ahead of one’s time
“ahead of time”的意思是“提前”；
但要在它中间插入一个“某人”，意思则完全变了，表示“比其他人更有才华”之意。
He’s ahead of his time. No one knows how important his discoveries are.
他的才华远超其他人。没人知道他的发现有多么重要。
3.High time
千万不要把“High time”理解成了“嗨的时候”。
它真正的意思，其实是“到了该做某事的时候了、正是时候”。
形象地理解一下：
时间都已经涨得那么高了，再不做可就来不及了，所以得赶紧了。
It’s high time you got that bad knee looked at by a doctor!
是时候让医生检查你的膝盖了！
It's high time that you concentrated on your work at hand!
是该你集中精力做你手头上工作的时候了！
It's high time you were all in bed!
你们该上床睡觉了！
4.call time
“call time”既可以用来表达“（通信中的）呼叫时间，通话时长”，也可以用来表示“宣布暂停”。
I think we should call time on this project.
我认为我们应该停止这个项目。
5.two-time
这个表达的意思，不是“两次”，千万不要弄错了！
它真正的意思，其实是“背叛自己的另一半，对爱情不忠”。
I ended the relationship when I found out he was two-timing me.
当我发现他背叛了我时，我结束了这段关系。
When she found out that he had been two-timing her, she left him instantly.
当她发现他背叛她时，她立即离开了他。
6.from time to time
来看看这个表达的英文释义：
sometimes, but not regularly.
有时，但不经常。
所以，“from time to time”的意思，也就是“不时，有时，偶尔”了。
The baby cries from time to time.
这个宝宝时不时地哭。
Her daughters visited him from time to time when he was bedridden.
他卧床不起时她的女儿们不时地来探望他。
I still think of her from time to time.
我仍然时不时地想起她。
