Cheng International once again invited Levs Surovecs, Assistant Bar Manager at China Tang at The Dorchester London and the UK Fenjiu Ambassador, to create original Fenjiu cocktails live on site. While retaining the relaxed and open format of the previous event, the Sakura Bar setting allowed for a closer exploration of how baijiu performs and adapts within a cross-cultural bar environment.
Distinct from both traditional Chinese-styled spaces and classic British pubs, Sakura Bar reflects a mature East Asian bar culture that has taken shape across European cities—marked by restrained design, a focus on flavour and technique, and a pluralistic Asian sensibility. Within this context, Fenjiu maintained its own identity while demonstrating a flexible, contemporary mode of expression.
Two Fenjiu cocktails were presented on the night, built on Fenjiu 10YO and Fenjiu Fen Chiew Brown, and paired with fresh notes of lemon and lychee. Framed within modern cocktail structures, Fenjiu’s aroma and body were clearly articulated, resulting in drinks with a distinct and recognisable profile.

The event attracted spirits enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds, including many local drinkers drawn by an interest in Asian drinking cultures. As tasting progressed, conversation moved beyond flavour alone to broader lifestyle considerations—Fenjiu’s approachable presence in cocktails, its contrasting drinking rhythm compared to Western spirits, and its potential role within contemporary bars and everyday social settings.
