My name is Carlos Larrea. I have been the Ambassador of Ecuador in China for more than five years, in which I have had the opportunity to work intensively in the communication field both with the Chinese Government and with relevant friends.

I would like to take this opportunity to convey my deep gratitude to the Government and people of the People's Republic of China at the end of my diplomatic duties in Beijing, a nomination that I have held since the presentation of my Credentials to President Xi Jinping on March 23 of 2018.

Bilateral relations are going through their best moment in history. Indeed, Ecuador and China have entered a new stage of development with an agenda that was agreed on the 5th February 2022, as a result of the meeting in Beijing between President Guillermo Lasso and President Xi.

I am referring to the recent signing of the Free Trade Agreement, the exponential increase in foreign trade and investment, a critical and successful health cooperation in the most difficult moments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the strengthening of economic and financial cooperation , the promotion of cultural, academic ties and people to people diplomacy; the fight against climate change and the protection, conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and the maritime environment; the joint efforts in the multilateral sphere to strengthen the values of peace and the principles of International Law, among many other milestones achieved thanks to a fluid exchange at the highest political and diplomatic level.
