Guangdong: Accelerating the cultivation of hydrogen energy industry and actively expanding the diversified demonstration applications of hydrogen energy
January 22, Guangdong Development and Reform Commission, Energy Administration of Guangdong Province, Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province, Department of Natural Resources of Guangdong Province, Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangdong Province issued the Guangdong Provincial Cultivation of New Energy Strategic Emerging Industries Cluster Action Plan (2023-2025) notice. About hydrogen energy, the Plan mentioned that accelerate the cultivation of new energy storage, hydrogen energy, smart grid and other emerging industries, by 2025, the formation of domestic leading, world-class new energy industry clusters. Promote the development and application of clean energy in an orderly manner. Vigorously promote the development of industrial agglomeration. Explore the construction of a comprehensive hydrogen power peaking station to cut peaks and fill valleys. Focus on the research and development of core hydrogen energy technology and advanced equipment manufacturing, and accelerate the cultivation of the whole industry chain from hydrogen production, storage, hydrogenation and transportation, fuel cell stacks, key components and power system integration.
100 hydrogen vehicles, 2 hydrogen refueling stations! Haikou drafts hydrogen energy industry plan
On January 15, the Haikou Development and Reform Commission issued a notice on the public solicitation of opinions on the Haikou Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Plan (2023-2035), setting three stages of hydrogen energy development goals for Haikou City. 2023-2025 is the industry and market cultivation stage. From 2023 to 2025, the industry and market cultivation phase will take place, with the demonstration operation of fuel cell vehicles striving to reach 100, and the construction of two independent hydrogen refueling stations and comprehensive energy supply stations. 2026-2030 will be the overgrowth phase of the industry. The number of various types of hydrogen vehicles will reach 1,000, more than 5 iconic hydrogen and fuel cell application scenarios, and 8 independent hydrogen refueling stations and comprehensive energy supply stations will be built. 2031-2035 will be the stage of rapid development of the industry. To build a science and technology innovation center, advanced manufacturing center, testing and certification center, market operation center and international exchange center that can lead the development of regional hydrogen energy industry.
Jiaozuo City supports the demonstration and application of hydrogen fuel vehicles
On January 18, the Office of the People's Government of Jiaozuo Municipality issued a notice on the issuance of "Several Policies for Supporting the Demonstration and Application of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in Jiaozuo City". It mentions that increase the demonstration application of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, support the new, updated buses such as buses, commuter buses and other buses and trucks such as dump trucks, cement tank trucks, logistics trucks, mine transportation trucks, postal trucks, sanitation trucks, etc., and give priority to the use of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Increase financial subsidies and incentives: price subsidies for purchased hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, incentives for hydrogen fuel cell vehicle operations, exit subsidies for traditional fuel (gas) dump trucks replaced with hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks, and support for hydrogen refueling station construction. Road access restriction measures are relaxed for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell trucks are allowed to pass in the urban built-up area of the main city of Jiaozuo City at other times except for the traffic peak ban, the ban on the South-to-North Water Transfer Bridge and Wanfang Bridge, and temporary traffic control measures.
Two green hydrogen technologies included in Inner Mongolia's 2024 "Open bidding for selecting the best candidates" technology List
On January 4, Department of Science and Technology of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region issued the Notice of the "Open bidding for selecting the best candidates" Technologies for Major Demonstration Projects of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Field of Low-Carbon Energy in 2024. The document pointed out that the list mainly focuses on the construction of national important energy and strategic resource base, focusing on new energy, hydrogen energy, energy storage, clean and efficient use of coal, energy saving and carbon reduction and other areas of major innovation needs to organize and implement. These include two hydrogen energy industry-related technologies: the development and engineering demonstration application of broad power fluctuation adaptability 100 kW PEM electrolytic water hydrogen production equipment, renewable energy hydrogen, ammonia key technology research and application.
Euronav plans to add 60 hydrogen vessels and 60 ammonia ships
The world’s largest independent oil tanker company, Euronav, says it plans to add 120 zero-carbon vessels to its fleet following its $1.15bn acquisition of sustainable maritime firm CMB.Tech — making it the indisputable world leader in clean shipping. These orders will consist of 60 small compressed-hydrogen-powered ships and 60 ammonia-powered larger vessels — all driven by combustion engines.
IEA: Green hydrogen production will grow more slowly than expected everywhere apart from China
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has drastically cut its estimates for how much new wind and solar will be built to power green hydrogen production over the next five years, implying that less renewable H2 will be produced than previously expected. The IEA projects that 45GW of new renewable energy capacity for green H2 will be built by the end of 2028, or just 7% of what developers have announced.“China is the only market where the pace of growth is likely to come within reach of announced goals,” the report notes. It predicts that 24GW of renewable energy capacity will be installed for hydrogen production in China by 2028, “far above the estimated 1GW needed” to power the central government’s ambition for 100,000-200,000 tonnes/year of renewable H2 by 2025.
Hexagon Purus to supply Ford Trucks with H2 storage solutions
Hexagon Purus has been awarded an undisclosed purchase order from Ford Trucks to deliver a hydrogen fuel storage system. The system will be utilised for Ford’s prototype heavy-duty truck, the fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) F-MAX, as part of the Horizon Europe project Zero Emission Freight EcoSystem (ZEFES).
