Sichuan supports hydrogen vehicles to drive in urban areas without traffic restriction

On March 6, the People's Government of Sichuan Province issued "Several policies and measures to support the high-quality development of new energy and intelligent connected vehicles industry". In terms of hydrogen energy, it mentioned to support the expansion of new energy vehicles (including hydrogen fuel cell vehicles) production. Implement the provision that new energy vehicles are not subject to tail number restrictions on travel throughout the province. Trucks with new energy battery electric vehicle and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle license plates (except for hazardous materials transportation vehicles), unlimited or less restricted travel on urban roads. Further strengthen the demonstration application of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Support the exploration of a pilot hydrogen production and hydrogenation integrated workstation outside the chemical park. Encourage vehicle, hydrogen and fuel cell related enterprises to actively participate in hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle demonstration projects. Referring to the current national incentive standards, support will be given to cities that carry out demonstrations. Cities can refer to the introduction of supporting policies.

Up to 20 million yuan! Daxing district promotes hydrogen energy industry development project application

On March 1,  Daxing District Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, Beijing issued a notice on the declaration of the project of “Interim Measures for Promoting the Development of Hydrogen Energy Industry in Daxing District (2022 Revision)”. The document proposes to support the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. For enterprises whose total investment in newly purchased R&D and production equipment reached 10 million yuan (inclusive) or more in the previous year, financial support will be given in accordance with 20% of the total investment in the equipment, with a maximum of 20 million yuan of support funds per enterprise per year. For the parts production and R&D enterprises whose products are listed in the key parts catalog of the national fuel cell vehicle demonstration city cluster, financial support will be given in accordance with 30% of the national incentive funds.

The construction of hydrogen fueling stations in Guangdong gets special fund subsidies

Recently, Department of Finance of Guangdong Province and Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department of Guangdong Province jointly issued the "Special Funds Management Measures for Green and Beautiful Guangdong Ecological Construction in Charge of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department of Guangdong Province (Revised in 2024)". The document adds a new special fund for the construction of hydrogen fueling stations. The main policy objective of the fund is to accelerate the layout and construction of hydrogen fueling stations, promote the implementation of hydrogen fueling station construction tasks in Guangdong urban agglomerations, and realize the completion of more than 200 hydrogen fueling stations by the end of the demonstration period.

The special funds are mainly used for the "The Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" period and put into use. Daily hydrogen fueling capacity (according to the fueling capacity of the compressor working 12 hours a day) of 500 kilograms and above will be given construction subsidies in accordance with provincial subsidy standards for provincial hydrogen refueling station construction policy and system publicity, emergency drills, safety assessment, information technology system construction, operation and maintenance of operations, and other special work and meetings and training, supervision and inspection, performance evaluation, and other provincial funding expenditures.

Hefei: Support the development and application of system integration technology for hydrogen production, storage and use

Recently, the Office of the People's Government of Hefei Municipality issued “Hefei New Energy Storage Development Plan (2023-2027)”. The plan proposed to carry out pilot applications of hydrogen energy storage in an orderly manner. Promote the popularization and application of hydrogen energy in multiple scenarios such as combined heat and power, backup power, microgrid and so on. According to the principle of "public transportation first, demonstration leading", the layout and apply hydrogen fuel cell buses, forklifts and heavy trucks in public transportation, chemical parks, storage bases, etc. and continue to promote the development of the whole chain of "production, transportation, storage and utilization" of hydrogen energy.

Focus on promoting hydrogen energy storage technology research. Strive to make technological breakthrough of photovoltaic hydrogen production and hydrogen storage, methanol, natural gas and other high-efficiency fuel cell key technologies and equipment research. Promote the research and development of hydrogen storage (ammonia) materials, containers, on-board hydrogen storage systems, hydrogen power generation and ammonia/coal co-firing power generation technologies, and focus on breaking through the bottlenecks in key material technologies and costs of electric stacks, bipolar plates, proton exchange membranes, alkaline membranes, catalysts, membrane electrodes, and so on. Break through in the integration and control management technology of fuel cell power generation systems, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technology of fuel cell systems, and support for the development and application of system integration technology for hydrogen production, storage and utilization.

Levidian displays ‘ultra-green’ hydrogen production technology to UK Government

Levidian and United Utilities have showcased waste-to-hydrogen production technology to representatives from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Levidian and United Utilities are working to decarbonise wastewater treatment by deploying Levidians patented LOOP technology to capture carbon and produce graphene and hydrogen from biogas as a fully sustainable feedstock. The project will help address two key issues facing the sector – how to process wastewater in a way that reduces emissions while minimising the financial burden of wastewater treatment. The unit is expected to save the emission of almost 50 tonnes of methane and produce around 10 tonnes of hydrogen each year. This technology will enable United Utilities to produce their own on-site hydrogen for use in its fleet of heavy-duty vehicles. The companies will also be exploring potential use cases for the graphene, which can be used to enhance a variety of products including batteries, construction materials and coatings.

Kraft Heinz Partners with Carlton Power for renewable hydrogen plant in UK

The Kraft Heinz Company, a global leader in food production, has partnered with UK-based Carlton Power to establish a renewable green hydrogen plant at its Kitt Green manufacturing plant in Wigan, Greater Manchester. The proposed Kitt Green hydrogen plant, with a capacity of 20 MW, is poised to supply over half of the plant’s annual natural gas needs, significantly slashing its carbon emissions by an estimated 16,000 tons per year. Remarkably, the hydrogen will be generated by an electrolyser, utilizing electricity derived from renewable sources like wind and solar power. Kitt Green stands as one of the largest food processing plants in Europe and a pivotal facility for Kraft Heinz. This venture into green hydrogen energy is a first for Kraft Heinz on a global scale. This project is not just a milestone for Kraft Heinz but also for Carlton Power, as it represents their fifth green hydrogen initiative in the UK.

Italy to launch €1.1bn fund for green manufacturing — including hydrogen electrolyser factories

Italy is to launch a new €1.1bn ($1.2bn) subsidy programme to support green manufacturing in the country, that could see manufacturers of electrolysis equipment in line for grants of hundreds of millions of euros. This is the third major subsidy scheme benefiting the hydrogen industry put forward by Rome and approved by the EC this year, following the €550m programme to help Italy’s industrial giants switch to using renewable H2 from fossil fuel-based hydrogen, announced in January. And prime minister Giorgia Meloni’s government has also received approval to award €350m to a green hydrogen “hub” in the south of the country which was positioned to offtake renewable H2.
