How to apply for a Work Permit for Foreigners to Work in China
(while they are outside of China)
为更方便外籍人士在中国工作、生活，宝安国际人才服务站梳理总结了外籍人士如何在中国就业的相关指南，本期为第二期：外国人不在中国境内如何申办外国人来华工作许可。
To facilitate the work and life of foreigners in China, the Bao'an International Talent Service Center has summarized a guide on how foreigners can find employment in China. This is the second part of the series, how foreigners outside of China can apply for a work permit to work in China.
1.申请外国人来华工作许可通知
1. Notice of telephone request for foreigners to come to China for work permit
人在海外，第一次申请Z字工作签证来中国，需要先获得外国专家局签发的外国人工作许可通知。这一步通常由国内的用人单位来操作，用人单位会在外国人来华工作管理服务系统注册账号并提交相应材料。
If you are overseas and apply for a work visa (Z-visa) to work in China for the first time, you need to obtain a foreigner work permit notice issued by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. This step is generally done by Chinese employers, who will register their accounts in the management service system for foreigners working in China and submit corresponding materials.
2.申请Z字工作签证入境
2. Apply for Z-visa to enter China
取得工作许可通知之后，就可以去所在国家的中国使、领馆申请Z字工作签证。工作签证通过后即可着手安排机票预订事宜。
After obtaining the work permit notice, you can go to the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country to apply for a Z-visa. After the work visa is approved, you can start to arrange air ticket booking.
3.办理临时住宿登记
3. Register for temporary accommodation
在来到中国境内之后，必须在抵达的24小时内完成住宿登记，如果旅馆住宿，旅馆会按照有关规定为你办理住宿登记，如果在旅馆以外的其他住所居住，就必须在入住的24小时内由本人或者留宿人，向居住地的公安机关办理临时住宿登记。
After arriving in China, you must complete the accommodation registration within 24 hours upon arrival. If you stay in a hotel, the hotel will register your accommodation according to relevant regulations. If you live in another residence other than the hotel, you must register your temporary accommodation with the public security organ of your place of residence within 24 hours upon arrival.
4.体检
4. Health examination
除了办理住宿登记，还有一件事是必须尽快做的就是体检，入境后需要到指定医院做。
In addition to registering for accommodation, you must do health examination at a designated hospital as soon as possible upon arriving in China.
5.申请外国人工作许可和居留许可
5.Telegraph for work permits and residence permits for foreigners
入境后15工作日之内需要网上申领工作许可和居留许可并提交纸质材料，申请预计需要5-10个工作日左右，申请成功后即可在中国工作和生活。
Within 15 working days after entering China, you need to apply for a work permit and residence permit online and submit paper materials. The application is expected to take about 5-10 working days. You can work and live in China after successful application.
