This year, as part of the provincial preservation initiative, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs have released revised lists of fauna and flora that are now under state protection.
On October 12, the Jilin Province Forestry and Grassland Bureau and Jilin Province Agriculture and Rural Department jointly announced the new lists to the public.
The Jilin Province State Key Protected Wildlife Directory included 136 protected wildlife species. Among them were 36 species of wild animals under first class national protection and 100 species under second class national conservation; 124 species are managed by forestry and grassland authorities and 12 by fisheries authorities.
The List of National Key Protected Wild Plants in Jilin Province includes 40 species, with ones pecies of wild plant protected at the national level and 39 species of wild plants protected under the second class conservation registry. The forestry and grassland departments manage 23 species and the agriculture and rural departments manage 17 species.
The Bureau of Forestry and Grassland of Jilin Province, together with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, worked with various research institutes and nature experts to compile the Atlas of Wild Animals and Plants under State Key Protection in Jilin to showcase these protected species.
The Atlas aims to increase the publicity and popularity of wildlife knowledge in order to promote conservation efforts within Jilin province.
