A lion with blunt bangs in Guangzhou Zoo has recently become a cyber celebrity after its video was posted on social media.
In the video, the lion was covered in yellow hair, but the hair on his forehead was drooping down, as if he had combed bangs. The hair on the forehead of a normal male lion tends to grow upright.
The male lion from Guangzhou zoo is named "Hang Hang". According to a zoo staff member, "The hairstyle is all natural. We dare not cut it."
The staff also explained that the flat fringe is probably due to the high humidity In Guangzhou.
The white lion is a rare color mutation of the lion, specifically the Southern African lion. White lions in the area of Timbavati are thought to have been indigenous to the Timbavati region of South Africa for centuries.
White lions are not albinos. Their white color is caused by a recessive trait, called leucism, derived from a less-severe mutation in the same gene that causes albinism, distinct from the gene responsible for white tigers. They vary from blonde to near-white.
