After the 2025 national college entrance exam, fraudsters have been exploiting families with fake promises. Tricks include early score access or paid admission offers.
A Hangzhou mother lost 250,000 yuan to a fake admission scheme after paying for a "high-level athlete" status with her daughter's poor exam results. The fraudster later directed the daughter to a shop near the college, instead of the college itself for registration.
Police officer Luo Yongci warned, "Such 'guaranteed admission' schemes are entirely fake, leaving victims with neither a spot nor their money."
Scammers also send phishing links disguised as services to check exam scores. Clicking these links may expose private personal information and banking data. Authorities urge using only official platforms for score inquiries.
Other fraudsters claim to modify scores or pose as university staff offering scholarships, demanding upfront fees. Police stress that legitimate aid never requires prepayment and advise verifying all offers through official channels.
The police have reminded the public to remain vigilant and never easily believe the promises of strangers. Do not trust unknown calls, avoid suspicious links, protect personal data, and verify before transferring money. Report scams to 96110 or call 110 if defrauded.
