Active flexible grinding robot maker Stial (Chinese: 斯帝尔) sets up its global R&D headquarter and AI center in Toronto, Canada in January 2023.
Established in 2005, Stial is an independent robot manufacturer, focusing on "active flexible grinding robots". Its core technologies, from the robot brain (bottom control system), AI sensory nervous system (flexible force control, tactile vision, intelligent tracking compensation), body design, to polishing process plan, form a complete closed loop of independent technology. The perfect layout in terms of hardware, software, algorithm, and technology, with dozens of national patents, has built Stial’s world-leading technical barriers.
Stial is positioned as a "flexible technology expert." Its "active flexible grinding robot" simulates the hand-feel design of a grinding craftsman. It has served global customers for more than 15 years. It is the first in the world to realize batch grinding of products in different scenarios and has accumulated the world's leading patented technology and industry data.
Stial is a company with an international perspective. Its team is composed of high-end talents from China and North America. Its head office and China assembly plant is located in Wuxi, Jiangsu. It also set up its Global R&D headquarter and AI center in Toronto, Canada in January 2023. Its Europe manufacturing plant and industrial design center is located in Italy.

Its R&D center in Canada is chaired by Chief Scientist Jing Jiang (Chinese: 姜晶), who is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences. Having recruited talents in the fields of instrumentations, AI, software, automotive, advanced robotic design with advanced motion control, Stial plans to establish a joint lab with Western University and Waterloo University and to look for global impacts in robotic-based flexible manufacturing, with around 20 people. Its Italy site gathers engineers and professionals in the fields of polishing process, next-generation robotic body design and industrial design. As part of the Europe layout, the Italy office is in collaboration with Politecnico-di-Milano, DTU, Eastern Finland, and Dublin. Roughly 40 people form the largest engineers’ group so far, based in an Italian manufacturing plant. Additionally, the Italy center also works on local research project applications and connects new clients in Europe.
The establishment of the Canada R&D center will accelerate Stial’s technological iteration and commercial layout with a promising future.
